On August 15th, 2007, CIRCOR Aerospace - Aerodyne Controls, Inc. hosted a visit by the Congressman Steven Israel (D-NY) at its Ronkonkoma, New York campus. Representative Israel was elected to Congress in 2004 and is serving a 4th term representing the 2nd Congressional District of New York, which includes the Long Island towns of Huntington, Babylon, Islip, Smithtown and Oyster Bay.

Aerodyne is a high technology company focused on custom engineered pneumatic systems and components and precision motion switches for the aerospace, defense and medical markets.

The discussion centered on Aerodyne’s long support of U.S. Military programs and the numerous challenges with doing business with the Defense Department and ensuring that the government continues to support the development of new technologies.

Congressman Israel reiterated his support of key military platforms, with content manufactured at the Long Island plant, including technologies for the unmanned Predator aircraft, the new P-8 Poseidon Navy Patrol Aircraft and the Navy SM-3 ballistic missile interceptor. Michael G. Ryan, Aerodyne’s General Manager/Vice President stated, “Our mercury-free motion switches and pneumatic devices are an asset to the warfighter and provide a cleaner energy source then traditional mercury switches and pyrotechnic activated weapons systems.”

Congressman Israel recommended Aerodyne continue to explore partnerships with defense research agencies like DARPA and other Long Island technology companies in the area of clean, alternative energy for the Department of Defense. Congressman Israel believes that Long Island has a strong base of aerospace and technology companies, along with the Brookhaven laboratory creating the perfect genesis for this area to continue to be a technology leader for defense and alternate power.
